Our trip to the tip
We stayed two nights at Elliot Falls on the way up which had a couple of sets of gorgeous waterfalls and swimming holes and some nice bush walks. It was also only 10km from Fruitbat Falls which was an awesome swimming hole for the kids, they're now getting very water confident and Ru is loving using his snorkel - I think he's better than me already (that wouldn't be hard though).
Elliot Falls Rob did some canyoning from 'the saucepan' down to Elliot Falls and then on to Twin Falls. 'A bit freaky jumping off these falls and coming up under the bubbles.'
Fruitbat Falls. And swimming at Fruitbat Falls, just above the waterfall was a swimhole that was perfect sitting height, just like a spa pool.
We stopped a night at Dulhunty River, instead of staying at the main campground we braved the 7km down the river to another site, it was a long vehicle scratching drive but when we got there - there was nobody there! The first campsite we've had all to ourselves yet and it was great. Rob saw a snake in the river here.
The obligatory photograph at The Tip.
Galahs at Laura. Hundreds of them all get together at the end of the day.
Weirdly this guy was sitting on a powerline about 20m from the rest. I'm not sure if he was in timeout or was their sentry.
The Jardine River Ferry. These guys have the ferry business tied up because oops someone set fire to the competitors barge, and blew up the riverbed at the only point where vehicles could safely cross. Its run by the local aboriginals, they charge from $88 for a return trip and they still can't turn a profit.
There was no swimming pool at Seisa (near the Tip) and as usual it was HOT. Luckily it rained and gave the boys some nice big puddles to play in, we just walked home via the campground showers. There's such beautiful beaches and rivers up this way and when its so hot its a bit torturous to not be able to swim in them.
Plane wreckage of a DC3 from WW2. We found the wing about 100m away and it had the imprint of the branch it had bent around when it hit.
Boys and guns. Plane wreckage of a twin-engine american bomber from WW2.
They have some strange pets up the Cape. This is Ozzy from Hann River Roadhouse, he shares the backyard with a big old dog.
No playground here? Thats alright, we'll improvise.
